The Akron Marathon, first run in 1999, was founded by local resident Steve Marks. Other race options
are a half marathon and marathon relay.
Akron Marathon Route
The course is rolling and scenic, and has been described as "like a foot-tour through the city of Akron".
The race starts in downtown Akron. From there the course takes runners across the All-America Bridge and into many
diverse neighborhoods, passing many significant local sites along the way (Akron Art Museum, The University of Akron,
Firestone Park, the Towpath Trail, etc). The route continues, leading onto main street and past local parks, before
reaching the finish line in front of the Civic Theatre. Apart from four miles of towpath, the race is all run on asphalt roads and concrete streets.
