The Los Angeles Marathon, inspired by the success of the 1984 Olympics, is the most popular marathon in the western half of the United States. It is also keen to boast that it is "one of the biggest parties anywhere".

Los Angeles Marathon Route
The LA Marathon route has been fequently modified over recent years, making it flatter and faster.

The race starts atVentura Blvd, where runners start their journey to the sounds of Randy Newman's 'I Love LA'. The following 26 miles is varied and runners frequently express a mixture of opinions.

Comments about the race are mixed. There are two main complaints. One is that the initial 3 mile stretch along a narrow strip of Cahuenga, slows many runners, preventing many possible personal best times. Also the journey through Boyle Heights in East LA (a major eyesore) is not always appreciated. However, others congratulate the course and speak highly of running past Hollywood Blvd and the Venice area.

Runners reach the finish line at Flower, where they will receive their medal and goodie bag.
