Race organisers had vowed after the 2013 terror attack that the Boston Marathon would continue. Their determination to proceed paid off, and Boston Marathon 2014 was a great success.

The Boston Marathon, organized by the Boston Athletics Association, is one of the Marathon 'Majors'. It is possibly the most difficult race to enter. Entry requirements are strict, with men under 65 needing to be able to complete the race in less than 3 hrs 55 mins. Men under 35 need to have achieved a time below 3 hrs 05 mins and women need to have finished a marathon within 3 hrs 35 minutes.

Boston Marathon Route
The Boston Marathon is a point-to-point race starting in the rural town of Hopkinton and ending at Boston. After starting, runners leave Hopkinton, heading through Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley. They then run through Newton Lower Falls along Commonwealth Avenue to Newton Hills, bearing right at the reservoir towards Cleveland Circle. They then turn left into Beacon Street. Runners are then led towards Commonwealth Avenue before turning right into Hereford Street then left into Boylston Street before the final stretch to the finish line at Copley Square.
