First run in 1992, the Ellerbe Marathon is the oldest marathon in North Carolina. There is also an Ellerbe Half Marathon.

Ellerbe Marathon Route
The race starts and finishes near to the Ellerbe Rescue Squad building at 106 Sunset Avenue. Starting on the nearby Page Street, runners follow 2 laps of a paved country roads course. Each lap has an out and back section that leads into a loop, finishing back at Sunset Avenue.
