The Harrisburg Marathon attracts over 1,000 runners each year, including people of all ages. It receives great reviews and many participants come back year after year.

Harrisburg Marathon Route
The course is mainly flat, with the start and finish line on City Island, a small picturesque island in the Susquehanna River. Runners are directed south, taking them into historic Shipoke before heading north toward Wildwood Lake Nature Park and then to the Harrisburg Area Community College's (HACC) suburban campus. Almost 7 miles of the Harrisburg Marathon goes via River Front Park along the edge of Susquehanna River.

The course is predominantly flat and provides a good chance to obtain a personal best time. There are however a few notable hills including the one at mile 16 when you run up the mountain next to the town. This hilly section last for four miles levelling out again at mile 20.
