The Miami Marathon starts at the American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat basketball team. It then makes its way towards Miami Beach giving panoramic views of Biscayne Bay. After crossing the causeway, runners pass by star Island, home to stars like P Diddy before heading onto Ocean Drive. Passing Art Deco hotels and the Holocaust Memorial dedicated to the victims of the World War II tragedy.

Moving away from the beach, runners make their way to the lush chain of islands known as the Venetian Isles. They then pass Miami's cultural centrepiece, the Miami Center for Performing Arts before passing through the clubbing district. Here they will see Gesu Church, Miami's first Catholic church, located close to the half-way stage.

The race passes the Miami River and into the the shadow of skyscrapers. It then passes into the residential areas of Coral Gables and Coconut Grove.
