The Lake Sonoma Marathon is part of a weekend-long community event that supports the local Wilson Winery Children of Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund. Other races accompanying the marathon are the Trail Sisters Women's Half Marathon and the Lake Sonoma 50 Mile race.

Lake Sonoma Marathon Route
Starting and finishing at the Lake Sonoma Visitor Center, runners follow a scenic route through the beautiful wine country. The course is described as "weaving through relentless rolling hills", consisting of nearly 95 percent single-track trails, with various climbs, and traversing more than a dozen creeks.
