The Marine Corps Marathon is part of Marine Corps Marathon Weekend, promoting physical fitness
and showcasing the organizational skills of the United States Marine Corps. There is also the
option to run a 50K or a 10K race.
Marine Corps Marathon Route
The race starts in Arlington, close to the Pentagon. Over the following 26.2 miles
runners are treated to some amazing sites. This included heading down George Washington Parkway
on the way to crossing Key Bridge into Georgetown to the town's popular M Street.
From there the course goes by the Kennedy Center and takes runners by the Lincoln Memorial
towards the halfway point.
On the inward half of the race runners continue running by the local sites. These include
a view of the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin as well as the
Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial and FDR Memorial.
Continuing on past the U.S. Capitol and Smithsonian Castle, the course heads back into Virginia
at mile 20. From there, the pass by the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery again before
an up-hill finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
