Outer Banks Marathon

The Outer Banks Marathon is part of the weekend of running that also boasts the Southern Fried Half Marathon as well as 8K and 5K races.

Because of COVID, there will be no 2021 Outer Banks Marathon. The half marathon and other races will take place as normal.

Outer Banks Marathon Route
The course is point to point and mainly flat. Two hilly section are encountered at Nags Head Woods Preserve near mile 12 and at the 35 foot tall Washington-Baum Bridge that leads to Roanoke Island at mile 23.

The race starts in Kitty Hawk. From there runners are led into the picturesque Memorial Trail and on towards the residential Outer Bank residential area where the will pass the famous Wright Brothers Monument. More amazing scenery awaits as the race continues via the Nags Head Woods Nature Preserve and Jockey's Ridge State Park.

The race continues on with growing support from spectators and roadside bands. The last significant obstacle is the Washington-Baum Bridge - a short hill that will slow your pace, but with a stunning view to reward effort before the last few miles to the finish line and cheers in beautiful downtown Manteo.
