The Rocket City Marathon was first run in 1977. The race is open to individuals and husband/wife and parent/child teams can take part.

Rocket City Marathon Route
The course is described as 'gently rolling and fast'. It is predominantly flat with only two hills over 35 feet.

The race starts next to Big Spring Park at the corner of Williams Avenue and Churrch Street. It begins with a two mile downtown loop, followed by a five mile stretch going south to a 14 mile southern loop, then returning north to Hilton. After the downtown loop, run is mainly scenic residential streets finishing in Gallitin Street.
