The Knoxville Marathon is part of a weekend of events also including a half marathon 5K and 'Covenant Kids Run'.
It is a popular race, partly for the scenery and is typically superbly orgnised.
Knoxville Marathon Route
The race is point-to-point loop, starting and finishing in downtown Knoxville, passing nearby attractions and staying within reach of the Tennessee River.
It has some mild hills, mainly in the first half of the race. Otherwise the race is predominantly flat.
From the start line at Clinch Ave Bridge, runners head towards the river then westwards, following the edge of Sequoyah Park.
The route turns north leading everyone to Third Creek Greenway. From there runners are directed towards the center of town and on to
the half-way point at World's Fair Park where half marathon runners split off for the finish line.
From the World's Fair Park the race moves north up and east. Runners pass Caswell Park before then being guided southwest back towards downtown.
The route then moves south across the South Knoxville Bridge where runners enjoy riverside views for five miles before returning to the north bank
of the river and into downtown Knoxville for the final time. A final mile leads runners along Church Avenue, through World's Fair Park and onto the
finish line at the 50 yard line in the Neyland Stadium.
