Start Time : TBD
Number of Places : TBD

The Pikes Peak Marathon was first run in 1956 as a challenge between smokers and non-smokers. It is the 3rd oldest US marathon and is considered to be the first marathon run by a woman when Arlene Pieper took part in 1959.

Pikes Peak Marathon Route
Often described as America's Ultimate Challenge, Pikes Peak Marathon has to be one of the toughest (some would say the toughest) races. Gaining almost 6,000 feet in the first 10 miles, and a further 2,000 feet before the halfway point, you legs and lungs will be tested to their limits. Luckily the remainder of the race is back down the mountain. But the last 13 miles is far from easy, over rocky ground and tree roots that try to trip you up on the way.

Runners start from the 600 block of Manitou Avenue next to Memorial Park in Manitou Springs. After only 0.23 miles the road turns to dirt/gravel and the ascent slowly, but surely begins. On the return from the summit runners finish close to where they started at Ruxton and Manitou Avenues in Manitou Springs.
