Although being surrounded by mountains the Sugarloaf Marathon is one of the 15 fastest marathons in the USA.

Sugarloaf Marathon Route
The race is hilly, but scenic. It takes runners through the mountains of Western Maine along the Maine Scenic Highway - Route 27.

The Sugarloaf Marathon starts on Route 27, in Eustis, next to the Cathederal Pines Campground. The route is mostly downhill. The first 5 miles are flat, followed by 3 miles of rolling hills and a two-mile climb at mile 8. Then the reason why this race is fast - the last 16 miles are downhill, finishing in Kingfield next to Jordan's Lumber.
